ESWM – 002 ES Waves – Email for Lucky – Out Now

Um I was away when this came out (in chilly Iceland, beautiful country) so have been a bit slow posting things here about Email.  Here is the press release which you may have seen elsewhere.

ES Waves Media presents ESWM-002 ES Waves – ‘Email for Lucky’. This package contains two mixes of ‘Email for Lucky’, the ‘Extension Mix’ and ‘Mix 3’ each being progressive house tracks.

The ‘Extension Mix’ (running at 08:46) is a moody proggy house set opener with a four minute intro which builds to the entrance of a big kick drum at 04:40. The track keeps the energy level fairly constant from there on in with some nice sound design thrown in. ‘Mix 3’ (also running at 08:46) is a mid set progressive house track with some big sounds in the second half of the track. It has a bit of a bleak repetitive feel.

2006 saw the release of the first ES Waves album ‘Nakatomi Plaza’ released on the defunct Inaspace Recordings label. Also in 2006 the dj Jonathan Lisle asked ES Waves to help out on his OS_0.2 mix album released on John Digweed’s Bedrock Records label de-constructing each track to create several dj tools which Jonathan used throughout that mix. Email for Lucky is the second release on ES Waves Media following ESWM-001 ES Waves – ‘Nean Dreams / Laser Beams’ released 11 October 2010.

The near future will bring the release of several more club focused ES Waves tracks on ES Waves Media before the release of the second full length ES Waves album ‘Parasol Stars’ early in 2011. ES Waves will return to release another club track in December 2010.

ES Waves Media also presents an occasional series of podcasts showcasing the music and dj sets of ES Waves. These are hosted by podomatic and can be subscribed to via iTunes using the following link itpc://eswaves.podOmatic.com/rss2.xml (retaining the itpc prefix). They are also posted on the ES Waves soundcloud page.

Nice 80s soundtrack music

Evil Nine, who I can’t say I’ve listened to a lot of, have put together a mix of music ostensibly from horror / Halloween / slasher film soundtracks.  There’s some really nice 80s synth sounds and production going on here.

ES Waves Media – 001 ES Waves ‘Neon Dreams / Laser Beams’ released 11/10/10

Press release for the first release on ES Waves Media.

ES Waves – Neon Dreams / Laser Beams

ES Waves Media presents the first ES Waves release following a four year hiatus. ES Waves – ‘Neon Dreams / Laser Beams’ is a synth heavy melodic progressive house track (hopefully leaning towards what would have been described as proggy house in the late ’90s rather than present day, though that is only the writer’s prejudice) with some interesting sound design detailing and is presented here in three flavours.

‘Neon Dreams / Laser Beams’ is the long form track with an extended intro and outro (running at 11:00). The ‘Quick Mix’ (running at 07:00} has a dj friendly intro and outro but retains the same main body as the aforementioned long form track. The ‘Master Mix’ (running at 10:59) is a stand alone track with an extended introduction, grooveless breaks and some nice heavy synths. It was also created before the other two tracks were put together hence it really is the master from which the two other tracks were spawned.

The near future will bring the release of several more club focused ES Waves tracks on ES Waves Media before the release of the second full length ES Waves album ‘Parasol Stars’ early in 2011. ES Waves will return with ES Waves – ‘Email for Lucky’ in early November 2010.

I’m finally prepared to muster some tracks together and let them go into the great wide world.  I’ve got two bundles of releases ready to go, one of which will be released early next month (October) and the next the following month (November).  I have enough material together now to steadily put out a release a month for the next six months or so so here they go.

New podcast, well almost

I ‘released’ ES Waves – Podcast 6 today which is in reality the summer 2006 mix I’ve already uploaded to my mixcloud site.  As all you can see are tumbleweeds blowing across that site I thought I’d give it a bit more love (by a bit I mean will one more person listen to it, who knows).

This is a mix I did in the Summer of 2006. I had a pair of CDJ1000s at the time and had just got heavily into ableton live so this mix was done using a pair of CDJ1000s / a technics deck and live. I ditched the CDJs very shortly afterwards as I thought ableton offerred just what I’d been looking for, a break from the prison of tune to tune mixing (plus someone offerred me a bit more than what I’d paid for them which was nice). Lots of big recogniseable tuneage on here.

1. Speedy J – Symmetry (live)
over last section of this track and lead into next, intro to BT – Remember (Sasha Mix), recurs several times during the mix

2. Bedrock – Forge
I looped a section in the middle with the drums, loads of reverb etc.

3. Speedy J – The Oil Zone (live)

Over the mix into rabbitweed I looped a section of the first track and the intro to remember again.

4. Sasha – Rabbitweed

5. S.H., Roby C – One Hour (Acid Rub Mix)
Over the mix out I used a percussion loop from Monolake – North

6. Formulate – The Voice of Qi (Brian Seed’s 8 bit breaks remix)
On the mix out of this I used a section from Ameoba Assassin – Piledriver (greyed out mix) and a sample from 12 Moons – Zero Gravity. Under all this is the beat from the intro to Antix -Cold Night.

7. Subsky – Albino (original and Blue Room Project mixes)

8 Bt – Remember (Sasha Mix) ESW edit
Underneath the ‘jam’ is the beat from Antix – Cold Night.

9. Cygnus X – Indakasa

ES Waves – Podcast 5

I’ve put together a fifth podcast.  This one’s a little bit more introspective.  There’s some really really cool understated tunes in here, some nice imaginative stuff.  I’ve mixed it really simply with basic cross overs.  In this instance it gives the music more of a chance to speak for itself, it gives each track a chance to stand on it’s own feet.  I bought the Laurent Garnier track a long time ago.  My intension here is to use it as a kind of palate cleaner.

Hope you enjoy.

Why no blog posts?

I’ve not posted any blog posts on here for a while .  I’ve no doubt that is because the time period between my last blog and this update is covered by the period I started using twitter.  As an update I’m continuing to put together more and more music, constantly refining and updating the music I’m planning to release.  I’m a ridiculous perfectionist and I hope this attention to detail is reflected in the enjoyment of the music that I’ll eventually release.

Really with today’s instant media I should have kicked out a few tracks by now but they are coming and are not too far away!  I had two single releases and the album finished and mastered but I pulled each as I wanted to refine them further.  I’m nearing the end of the refining process and hope to sail the ship in the next couple of months.
